SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 29, 2001. Dr. Jim Ingold, ornithologist at LSU-Shreveport, led the bird-banding efforts. Other participants included Coleen Cookson and Julie Schreiner of Shreveport, Dorothy Metzler of Longview, Peggy Harding of Kilgore, and Tom Walker of Jefferson. A total of 17 birds were caught.
Location: The activities took place just west of Caddo Lake in Marion County on Boots Walker Road (near Jefferson, Texas).
Weather Conditions: Clear skies. The low was in the 60's and the high was in the low 80's.
Time: 8:30 till 4:00 p.m.
Number of Nets: Twelve (12)
Special Notes: There were no retraps.
It was unusual to catch a Ruby-crowned Kinglet this early in the season. It is a species that winters here.
