Saturday, November 16, 2002 -- Dr. Jim Ingold, ornithologist at LSU-Shreveport, led the bird-banding efforts. Other participants included Tom Walker of Jefferson; Dorothy Metzler of Longview; Diane Jones of Jonesville; Ron Munden of Marshall; and Jim, Jenny, Jaimmie, and Jimmie Burton of Jefferson.
Location: The banding activities took place just west of Caddo Lake in Marion County on Boots Walker Road (near Jefferson, Texas).
Weather Conditions: Clear, cool and breezy. The morning low was approximately 40° F and the high was in the low 50's.
Time: Jim and Tom began putting up nets at 8:45 a.m. and the nets were down by 3:45 p.m.
Number of Nets: 13
Special Note: We netted a Song Sparrow that Jim had banded here six years ago. Since then we've retrapped this individual every winter season except one. This sparrow migrates back to its breeding range in the northern US or Canada every summer and then finds its way back to the same farm in east Texas each winter.
Next Banding Date: Saturday, November 30 (weather permitting). Watch our bird-banding home page.
