Saturday, October 4, 2003 -- Dr. Jim Ingold, ornithologist at LSU-Shreveport, led the bird-banding efforts. Other participants included Tom Walker of Jefferson; Colleen Cookson of Shreveport; Dorothy Metzler, Harve Truskett, and Don & Barbara Kiser of Longview; Ron Munden, Diane Jones, Margaret Thompson, Jack Canson, and John Gordon of Marshall; Tony Novak of Caddo Lake; Abel Munoz of Alice; and at least 25 members of the North Texas Master Naturalists from the Dallas area.
Location: The banding activities took place just west of Caddo Lake in Marion County on Boots Walker Road (near Jefferson, Texas).
Weather Conditions: The morning low temperature was ~51º F, and the afternoon high was ~81º F. Skies were partly cloudy, with winds around 5 mph.
Time: Nets were opened at 8:00 a.m. and closed at 5:30 p.m.
Number of Nets: Only eight (8) nets were put up due to the difficulty of getting the poles into the dry, hard ground.

Other participants included Tom Walker of Jefferson; Colleen Cookson of Shreveport; Dorothy Metzler and Nadine Pope of Longview; Ron Munden, Margot Lingold, and Shannon Graff of Marshall; Abel Munoz of Alice; Jack and Cathie Foster of Branson, Missouri; and George and Vicki Corbin, Debby Kuennen and Marilyn Turnage with the Dallas-Fort Worth area Sierra Club.
Location: The banding activities took place just west of Caddo Lake in Marion County on Boots Walker Road (near Jefferson, Texas).
Weather Conditions: The morning low temperature was around 60º F, and the afternoon high was around 80º F. Skies were cloudy to partly cloudy, with winds below 5 mph.
Time: Nets were opened about 10:00 a.m. and closed about 4:00 p.m.
Number of Nets: Nine (9)
Special Note: We retrapped a cardinal that Jim had banded 7 years ago in November 1996 (the first season we banded at this location).
