On November 25, 2000, we were extremely pleased to net and band all three Ammodramus sparrow species that winter regularly in our area. The field in which we found them was a bahiagrass hay meadow, pictured below.
The Henslow's
Sparrow (above left) and Grasshopper Sparrow (three photos above center) were banded by Jim Ingold on November 25,
2000. I ran out of film before I was able to photograph the Le Conte's
Sparrow he banded that day.
The Le Conte's Sparrow (above right) was
flushed from the same field in March 2000.

The sparrows above were mist-netted and banded at Tom Walker's family farm, between Caddo Lake and Jefferson, Texas. The nets were set up at the far end of this hay meadow (pictured above). Several people, with long, heavy-duty electrical extension cords dragging the ground between them, walked across the field, flushing the sparrows (and one Eastern Meadowlark -- below) into the nets.
